COVER THEME - DARJILING

"When it's spring in the Himalayas...
When the sun-spun rain falls gently on the mountains...
When magical mists like divine dragons rise from forests...
That is when the mystic of Darjiling tea is created."

Among the spectacular snow covered mountains at an altitude of 2134 m we can encounter the beauty and magic of Darjiling and enjoy the flavour of Darjiling Tea. The fragrance and exquisiteness of Darjiling tea is often described as every sip being a trip to enchantment. The distinctive and exclusive character of Darjiling tea which cannot be replicated anywhere in the world is the result of several factors. The tea gardens are situated at elevations from 610 to 2134 m on steep slopes which provide ideal natural drainage for the generous rainfall received. Further the intermittent cloud and sunshine combine to impart the unique character of Darjiling tea. The Darjiling hill station was founded by the British in 1835 with a military cantonment and a health sanitarium. Tea plantation had started around 1850s and the British also introduced various flowers and fruits to the area. It had grown in stature which is incomparable in the world and the grand name of Darjiling tea is now well established all over the world. The word Darjiling comes from the Tibetan words "Dorje" meaning the thunderbolt of Indra, the king of Gods and "Ling" meaning a place or land. Thus "Dorje-Long" means the land of thunderbolts.
