About:

With the inception of the Transport Department [ erstwhile known as Home (Transport Department ) under the Govt. of West Bengal, in 1962, the Officers such as Motor Vehicle Inspector ( Technical / Non-Technical), Additional Regional Transport Officer and Regional Transport Officer were appointed under the Transport Department, with a definite purpose to generate Revenue by implementing and enforcing the provisions of the M.V. Act, Central M.V. Rules, W.B.M.V. Tax Act & Additional Tax Act and W.B.M.V. Rules in all the Districts including Kolkata as well as to look after the General Administration of the Motor Vehicle Offices in the state. Since then this Department of the Government has been successfully discharging all its duties and over the years it has established its importance as one of the most potential Revenue earning Departments of the Government.

The Motor Vehicle Department generally consists of four types of Officers namely: Motor Vehicle Inspector (Technical), Motor Vehicle Inspector (Non-Technical), Additional R.T.O. and R.T.O.

The Officers from the first two cadres are considered for promotion to the post of the Addl. R.T.O, only after completion of Six years of minimum service and depending on the number of the vacancies available.

GATIDHARA scheme for self-employment

Gatidhara is a scheme of the Government of West Bengal administered by Transport Department for employment of registered unemployed youth of the State in transport sector.

The scheme was launched in August 2014.

Benefits

  • Beneficiaries get financial support of upto 30 % of vehicle cost or upto Rs. 1,00,000 as subsidy
  • Women get a subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh.
  • Beneficiaries are given preference in getting permits.

Eligibility

  • Unemployed youth between 20 and 45 yrs (upto 48 yrs for OBC and 50 yrs for ST/SC)
  • Registered in employment bank
  • Monthly family income less than Rs 25,000
  • Only one member from a family is eligible for the scheme

How to apply

Vehicle-dealers are authorized facilitator for Gatidhara Scheme. Applicant should get his application with all requisite documents processed by the dealer of his choice. Select a financier for loan required for purchasing the vehicle. Vehicle is to be registered within one month of receipt of offer letter for permit and subsidy under the scheme.

  • Photocopy of proof of age (Xerox Copy – 2 sets)
  • Photocopy of proof of address. (Xerox Copy -‘2 sets)
  • Identity proof (Xerox Copy – 2 sets)
  • Photocopy of proof of Bank A/C (Xerox Copy- 2 sets)
  • Colour passport size photograph (6 copies)
  • Quotation for vehicle issued by Gatidhara Facilitator
